What is a Paddle Wheel Aerator?
A paddle wheel water aerator (also called a fishery or water wheel aerator) is a floating device that throws water into the air using rotating paddles. This action increases oxygen transfer and enhances horizontal pond circulation.
Key Functions:
- Improves oxygen absorption at the water surface
- Reduces dead zones and thermal layering
- Helps stabilize pond conditions by improving mixing
Perfect For:
- Vannamei shrimp ponds
- Carp, tilapia, and pangasius farms
- Aquaculture raceways and hatcheries

How to Choose the Right Floating Paddle Wheel Aerator
Choosing the correct aerator depends on your pond size, pond load, and how many hours you need to run it. Use this simple guide:
Check your pond size and depth
- Bigger ponds need more circulation and usually more aerators.
- Deeper ponds may need stronger mixing to avoid low-oxygen zones.
Understand your pond load (stocking + feeding)
- Higher stocking and heavy feeding reduce oxygen faster.
- If your pond load is high, choose higher HP or more units for better coverage.
Select the right model (HP and paddle count)
- 2 Paddle: good for small ponds and basic circulation
- 4 Paddle: stronger mixing and wider coverage
- 6 Paddle: best for larger ponds and strong water movement
(HP and paddle count should match your pond load and pond size.)
Decide how many units you need
One aerator may not cover the full pond evenly. If the pond is large or the load is high, it’s better to use multiple units placed in different areas to remove dead zones.
Check power availability at your site
- If you have 415V, 3-phase, you can run most commercial models.
- If power is unstable or off-grid, consider solar or battery backup options.
